PAROXYSMAL SUPRAVENTRICULAR TACHYCARDIA

Paroxysmal supraventricular tachycardia (PSVT) belongs to atrium arrhythmias and implies a sudden occurrence of heart rate acceleration.

Causes:

The most common cause is the existence of two functional paths in the AV node itself, in which there is a circular motion of electrical irritation

Symptoms

  • The PSVT attack occurs suddenly in the form of a heartbeat and can last for several minutes or more hours, even days. There are usually no significant symptoms, other than the feeling of heartbeat
  • In patients with heart failure (myocarditis, coronary disease, arterial hypertension, congenital and acquired heart defects), the longer duration of the attack can cause a deterioration of the pump function of the heart and myocardial ischaemia.

Diagnosis

Anamnesis, clinical examination, ECG; Cardiac frequency is usually 140-200 per minute (negative retrograde p wave in leads II, III, and aVF)

Treatment

  • Medical treatment
  • Radiofrequency ablation by removing a slow or fast path.
